Core Analytical Framework
The scope of the issues involved in the struggle agains poverty through development, makes it imperative to generate new knowledge and insights on the refugee and internally displaced people themes. The aim of GRS is to make a contribution towards creating a new research platform and subsequent strategy proposal at the policy level. The objectives are the following:
The scope of the issues involved in the struggle agains poverty through development, makes it imperative to generate new knowledge and insights on the refugee and internally displaced people themes. The aim of GRS is to make a contribution towards creating a new research platform and subsequent strategy proposal at the policy level. The objectives are the following:
- To launch a research program with a focus on creating theoretical and methodological knowledge concerning the main causes, consequences and policy relevant solutions to the refugee problem and displacement.
- To launch Research topics related to repatriation, rehabilitation, resettlement and rebuilding local, national and regional communities in a developmental context.
- To explore current areas of research focusing on the role of non-state actors, issues of national responsibility, donor policies towards internal displacement, the role of regional and sub-regional organizations, development-induced replacement, the role of peacekeepers in protecting and assisting the internally displaced, an inquiry into when displacement ends, and efforts to propose policies for a more comprehensive protection regime for refugees and internally displaced persons.
- To contribute to the synergies between Danish foreign policy and links with development aid and policies towards refugees and internal displacement.
- To contribute to research and teaching capacity building in developing countries.
- To establish linkages between GRS initiatives and new research areas of importance to Danish foreign policy.
- To establish collaboration with international research institutions.
- Furthermore, the intention is to contribute to capacity-building in developing countries.
- To contribute to the institutionalization of a new Master Program in Global Refugee Studies at Aalborg University.
Activities
- Organize workshops and conference with relevant topics related to GRS.
- Establish a framework for analysis and an overview of existing research of the migration-development in an international, regional and national context.
- State of the art overview of the debate on forced migration and IDP.
- Identification of strategic research themes for Ph.D and program research related to GRS.
- Identification of relevant strategic research areas in relation to Danish and EU foreign policy.
- Inititiate a debate with existing authorities about research priorities and policy.
- Identify links between repatriation and development aid priorities in Denmark and EU.
- Creation of a GRS website with relevant information for networkpartners and space for debate and dissemination of activities.
- Establish links with international partners.
- Contribute to the establishment of a Master Program in Global Refugee Studies.
- Organize internationally renowned visiting scholars to Denmark who can act as academic resource persons and give relevant input to GRS.
- Establish contacts and institutionalise links to research communities in developing countries in terms of capacity-building through cooperation agreements, training etc.
- Create effective channels of information – newsletters, reviews etc.
